The Franklin Theatre today announced that acclaimed roots gospel/blues artist Mike Farris will give a New Year’s Eve concert at the historic 300-seat venue on , December 31, 2011. Farris and his band the Roseland Rhythm Revue first performed at the Franklin Theatre on July 9, just weeks after the venue’s grand reopening on June 3.

“We are so excited to have Mike return to our stage this New Year’s Eve,” said Franklin Theatre Program Director Sara Preston. “He brings so much energy,” Preston said. “This concert is going to be quite the party. 2011 is going to go out with a bang at the Franklin Theatre.”

Former front man of Nashville’s blues-infused “Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies,” Farris has performed as a solo act since the early 2000s and has set the standard on reinterpreting early American black gospel tunes and lending euphoric, dance-inducing rhythms with his signature powerhouse vocals. Farris was named “New/Emerging Artist of the Year” in 2008 by the Americana Music Association and won the Gospel Music Association’s 2010 award for “Best Traditional Gospel Album of the Year” for “SHOUT! Live.”

In addition to the concert, the evening will include a countdown to 2012 with a champagne toast at midnight. Tickets start at $30. Click here to purchase.

Originally built in 1937, the Franklin Theatre re-opened to the public on June 3, 2011 following a multi-year, multi-million-dollar restoration.
